Rough Draft (Project 2)- Rebecca Shalloway "Kitchen"

"Kitchen" is a short 2 minute video highlighting the space that is used, or processed. Like a toolbox, it's a storage space for food and food related objects. It's a workbench not just for a chef, but anyone. No one eats in the space, they just use it to produce or store. This reflects food production today. From the start, everything we eat is processed. From the fertilizer we use to grow vegetables and fruits, to the chemicals we put in cheese to increase it's lifetime the food today is manipulated. This kitchen (after being used) is similar. In the space an ordered list or recipe if performed. It is a process orientated space and the result (the prepared meal) is not even eaten in the space rather moved elsewhere.

Another concept of "Kitchen" is to talk about the evolution of tools. Over time tools have developed and so has our food process. Compared to even 100 years ago the amount of effort we put into cooking or even processing food is unfathomable. There are many steps. For example, if you were to drop a toaster in the middle of undeveloped New Guniea, the local natives wouldn't understand what the purpose of it was. Maybe they would see it as a piece of sculpture or a paper burner.
