Aspects and Elements of Time Summary -CM

Time, as gravity, is intangible. The importance of time is crucial for photographers, video photographers, book artists, and filmmakers who are able to create an indelible image, like when photographer Sam Shere was able to capture the moment in which the dirigible Hindenburg exploded. Meanings unfold through the passing of time; also, the telling of a story, an idea, and visual rhythm can be accomplished through the juxtaposition of images. The building blocks of film, video, and graphic novels are frame, shot, scene, and sequence. A graphic relationship connects images through visual similarity; spatial relationship can expand or compress the stage on which an action occurs; temporal relationship can establish chronology and the use of flashbacks; and rhythmic relationship is accomplished when many shots are combined.
