Aspects & Elements of Time Summary - Crystal Giraldo

This reading introduces the different elements of time that artists, designers, and filmmakers use in order to express an idea or create a narrative. Building blocks of film are its frame, shot, scene and sequence; these elements can also be applied to 2D design and imaging. The arrangement of these continuous structures establish what the audience will see visually. There are also different types of relationships between shots: graphic, spatial, temporal and rhythmic. An artist or filmmaker will use these different types of relationships in order to evoke an emotional response/connection with their audience. Although time is intangible, trying to understand the context in which its used is a crucial part in finding/developing a meaning in a work of art.
