Aspects and Elements of Time

     Time is an important factor when it comes to art and design. Frame, shot, sequence, and scene are some of the building blocks used in film, video, and graphic artwork. The are four types of shot-to-shot relationships: graphic, spatial, temporal, and rhythmic. The article goes on to give an example of how Hitchcock used these techniques in his film The Birds. He successfully created a suspenseful sequence that led up to a powerful climax in the film. Crosscutting helped him create the temporal relationship.
